Two museums competed last night for the attention of the beautiful and the philanthropic. While the Plaza hosted the more formal Winter Ball for the Museum of the City of New York, over at the American Museum of Natural History, the attendees tried to outdo the exhibits in exotic attire.

Here’s our list of best-dressed for the evening.

  • Back Forward Barbara Regna, Micaela English

We loved the juxtaposition of Ms. Regna's cherubic face and her devilish red-fur gown.

  • Back Forward Lara Trafelet, Mary Snow

We love how we can always recognize Mary Snow since she's always wearing white. It's a great mnemonic device as well.

  • Back Forward Yana Balan

The Russian beauty looked like a Grecian goddess at the Plaza.

  • Back Forward Nancy Talcott, Jim Talcott

Nancy Talcott's white swan ensemble could upstage even Natalie Portman.

  • Back Forward Jana Balan, Anastasiya Siro, Polina Proshkina

Ms. Siro with her tomboy gown made us believe such a thing was possible, while Ms. Proshkina added a splash of beach color to the otherwise winter ball.

  • Back Forward Liam Neeson, Linda McDaniel, Graziano de Boni

Liam Neeson forwent the tuxedo and dressed in head-to-toe black for this black-tie dinner. Bold move...but when you're a movie star, you're allowed some leeway. Especially when you can make it look as good as Mr. Neeson does.

  • Back Forward Lauren Remington Platt

"I love your necklace!" the founder of Founder and C.E.O. of Vênsette exclaimed over our costume jewelry we had hastily acquired in some flatiron boutique for ten dollars. We confided our faux-baubles and complimented her on her earrings.
"These were forty dollars," she winked.

... the atmosphere was a little more colorful.

The designer's tiered ensemble was a bold choice...and makes us hungry for cupcakes.

  • Back Forward Amy Fine Collins

The Vanity Fair contributor went for an under-the-sea theme with a sparkling mermaid number.

  • Back Forward Angela Smith Domzal

Banker and philanthropist Angela Smith Domzal went a Betty Boop mini-dress. Sparkles were definitely a theme of the evening.

  • Back Savannah Engel, Michael Ariano

Not everyone could pull off a bright yellow cut-away gown, but not everyone is Michael Kors' PR beauty, Savannah Engel.
