Damsels in Distress star Greta Gerwig is dishing already about her next-next role, in Woody Allen’s Italian romp Nero Fiddled. Says the indie darling in an exclusive outtake from the upcoming issue of Bullett: “Woody Allen is so sweet. He would make these little jokes to himself and sometimes to the people around him, but sometimes just to himself. It seemed so sweet to me that he makes himself laugh still. He’s always thinking that way. He’s been writing jokes professionally since he was 15 or 16. That’s still how he functions. I think he would do that even if he weren’t making movies. When I hear him make a little joke to himself, I think, That’s so sweet.”
Ms. Gerwig went on to describe her reverence for the recent Oscar-winner: “Sometimes he’d say like, ‘Say whatever you want to say. Put it in your own words.’ He wasn’t precious. But we didn’t end up improvising much because we were like, We can’t! We’re not going to! This is inappropriate.” The last starlet we’ve heard rave so much over Mr. Allen was Scarlett Johansson–who ended up in three of Mr. Allen’s films in as many years. Clear your schedule, Greta!
