To Do Friday: How We Are Hungry

'The Hunger Games' cast (Patrick McMullan)

If you haven’t bought tickets in advance, you’re out of luck: It’s The Hunger Games—a teencentric movie about attractive young people stabbing one another to death in a thunderdome— which is tipped for a $100 million weekend. Sure, it’s derivative of a lot of other sci-fi stories, but they were all great stories the first time around! As your local movie palace will be packed (we prefer the Empire 25, for the escalator-ride-over-Modell’s realness), why not go to BAM and see Distant Voices, Still Lives in the Terence Davies retrospective? Pete Postlethwaite is in it! (Who does Hunger Games have, anyhow? Oh, Donald Sutherland? Never mind, I guess.)

The Hunger Games in wide release; Distant Voices, Still Lives at BAM Rose Cinemas, 30 Lafayette Avenue (Brooklyn). Tickets and information can be found at www.bam.org.
