What a year 1950 was! No, we’re not just nostalgic for the Truman administration (although things made a lot more sense then, sort of!) but for the Broadway productions mounted that year. Most famous among them was Guys and Dolls, but also included were lesser-known gems like Call Me Madam and Dance Me a Song—all of whose signature songs will be revived tonight at Town Hall as part of the “Broadway by the Year” series. We’re nostalgic largely for an era during which shows didn’t jump from the movie screen to the stage. (We’re not sure that 62 years hence, anyone will pay to hear people reprise the tunes from Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark!).
