There’s a set of royalty in New York that includes neither our benevolent-ish king, Michael I, nor the hierarchy of society—sorry, Tinz—nor Kate Middleton’s stripper seventh cousin. The self-appointed “Imperial Sovereign Majesties” rule over the slightly older, queer subset of nightlife—the sort who remember when a gent dressing up like a lady was transgressive instead of a fairly tame reality show! Their “Night of a Thousand Gowns” charity event is to feature a comedy set by Lisa Lampanelli and a very open bar, certainly: Come for the opportunity to meet some of the most outre dressers in New York, stay as long as you don’t violate the dress code. (Nudity and live animals are explicitly forbidden. Boring!)
Broadway Ballroom, Marriott Marquis Hotel, 1535 Broadway, cocktail hour begins at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and dancing to follow. Tickets and information can be found at http://www.icny.org/noatg.
