To Do Thursday: Salmon, Rushedly

Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor (Getty Images)

Another night, another screening—tonight of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, the Ewan McGregor-Emily Blunt Middle East fishing romance the world never knew we needed. The pretty-Brit film is directed by Lasse Hallstrom, whom fans of turn-of-the-century Miramax Oscar confections will fondly remember from Chocolat and The Cider House Rules. It’s enough to make us nostalgic not merely for the era during which Mr. Hallstrom’s movies were the be-all and end-all of quality (The Artist and Hugo were nostalgically cute, but Oscar-winners?) but also for the era during which Mr. McGregor was cinema’s next big thing (Jar-Jar Binks, wherefore art thou?). In any case, we’ll get the chance to have him sign our Velvet Goldmine poster tonight!
