To Do Wednesday: Whit’s Happening

'Metropolitan'

Just in time for the release of Whit Stillman’s latest nouveau-period-piece, Damsels in Distress, comes a screening of his 1990 damsels-and-dudes-in-distress drama, Metropolitan. The story of the lives and loves of debutantes whose parents have long since gone absent is being screened for free (ooh, the presence of the hoi polloi! Gross!) at the World Financial Center (all too fitting!). Though Metropolitan is really a Christmas movie, the gin-tinged chill it cast across your heart is the perfect tonic to an unseasonably early spring. Gather your urban haute bourgeoisie friends, bring a picnic basket full of toast points and caviar, and reminisce about the glory days of Chris Eigemann!

Winter Garden, 3 World Financial Center, 220 Vesey Street, 7:30 p.m. Open to the public.
