Despite the rumors that New York City shut down entirely on Saturday night so that everyone could go to our nation’s capital and watch Jimmy Kimmel tell his high school teacher to “eat it,” Manhattan star stragglers were seen out and about. The Avengers premiere closed out the Tribeca Film Festival. (Turns out no other director wanted to follow Joss Whedon in the lineup.)
And let’s not forget Comedy Central’s 2nd annual Comedy Awards–which are like the Emmys for laughter, if no one knew the Emmys existed and they had a super-redundant name–which took over the Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday to celebrate the best comedic performances of network TV. Also: Bridesmaids and The Artist. So it was exactly like The Emmys.
Those funny people left in the city enjoyed the goofy-yet-mell0w vibe of the weekend’s event… one in which they didn’t have to worry if Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan, or Wolf Blitzer would show up and ruin the evening with their shenanigans.
Let D.C. deal with those party monsters for one night out of the year. New York, somehow, managed to exist without them. Though the awards won’t air till May 6th, you can see the winners here.
