Now that the shuffling first three months of the year are over, we find ourselves going to recurring annual events a bit more—the faces and locations and hors d’oeuvres are wonderfully repetitive, leading into the annual festival of sunny blankness that is summer in the Hamptons. Tonight brings the 18th annual “Evening of Practical Magic” on behalf of City Harvest, at which Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group is to be honored for its commitment to feeding the homeless. Yes, it’s at Cipriani, that Midtown perennial. The host committee includes Eric Ripert, the schmancy chef who goes downmarket on Top Chef and a banking honcho in the form of OneWest CEO Steven Mnuchin. Why, this all seems terrifically familiar!
