When it was first announced that three cast members might be leaving Saturday Night Live at the end of the season, Jason Sudeikis seemed a likely candidate. Along with Kristin Wiig, the actor’s film career has taken off in the last several years, and his current slate of projects would keep him pretty busy should he stay on the live show.
Yet during the season finale of SNL, Ms. Wiig was given an unusually huge (and sentimental) send-off, while Mr. Samberg made a winking reference to his own departure in his Digital Short, “Lazy Sunday II.” But what of Mr. Sudeikis?
When we ran into the boyfriend of Olivia Wilde at the Edison ballroom last night for the Webby Awards after party, The New York Observer interrupted the comedian as he tried to tame his sideburns using a semi-reflective wall as a mirror. Could he tell us about his future on Saturday Night Live?
“I can’t…I’m not going to comment on that,” Mr. Sudeikis mumbled.
What about the rumor that he was angry at Lorne Michaels for singling at Ms. Wiig for a big goodbye?
Either he didn’t hear us or became too suspicious, as he immediately turned to Webutante Ball co-host Lindsay Kaplan and asked her if she spelled her name with an “E-y or an a-y.”
She told him, and Mr. Sudeikis nodded gravely.
“A-y is much cooler,” he declared, before diving into a discussion of numerous Lindsay/Lindsey acquaintances and their various attributes.
So while we’re still unclear if Mr. Sudeikis will be back next season (our money’s on “no”) we do know where he stands on the spelling of female names.
