Ah, Memorial Day weekend. The official start of the summer. And as The Observer traipsed from event to event this week in the thick fog and pouring rain, we asked everyone we encountered: How are you spending your summer? (Assuming, of course, that it isn’t as dreary as this week was.)

“Oh, traveling, trying to get to Maine as much as possible, getting to the Hamptons as much as possible, trying to keep my gardens growing in Bedford. Busy!”
“This year I've taken an estate in Bali. It's six houses in a bamboo forest.”
“I’m going to Washington D.C., to take my daughter to see how the world works! All the quintessential Washington things.”
“The highlight will be seeing the U.S. team compete in the Olympics in London. We’re [Ralph Lauren] outfitting the team. It should be a very proud the moment.”

On planned trips to London, Telluride and the Hamptons: “I think I’d like to try a bit of everything—like a soup!”
“I’ll be on the road. I am looking forward to Milan. I’ve been to Rome, but never there. I’m keeping a list of countries ands states that I’ve never been to!”
Jason: (Looks suspicious) "I'm going to Virginia."
The Observer: “To visit family?”
Jason: (Even more suspicious) “Extended family. Why? What are you doing?”
