To Do Tuesday: Advertisements for Themselves

  • Adam Driver and Jane Lynch

Last night was a tough call: Were we to attend Peggy Siegal‘s viewing party for Hysteria, which promised Hugh Dancy and vibrators by JimmyJane, or the Cinema Society’s screening of Virginia at the Crosby Hotel, which promised Judd Hirsch and Shiseido facial products?

Obviously, we couldn’t make such a tough call. So we chose both!

After sitting in the back of the theater at Sunshine Cinema, where Hysteria made for a pleasant ( if slightly precious) diversion from the wet weekday. Maggie Gyllenhaal and Mr. Dancy starred in Tanya Wexler‘s period piece about the invention of the vibrator. We stuck with the crowd to the Hotel Chantelle on Ludlow, where we were greeted by champagne and Red Bull cocktails–which look dangerously like regular bubbly–leading to an accidental overdose of taurine that kept us vibrating the rest of the evening.

Then it was over to the Crosby, where the party for Dustin Lance Black‘s Virginia was still in full swing. Celebrities seemed to have a similar game plan, as we saw several of the night’s A-listers attending both events. Busy, busy, busy!

  • Back Forward Hugh Dancy

We ran into the rakish Brit in line for more of the Red Bull/champagne cocktail. Buzzing on our high, we blurted, "You were in the movie!" Thankfully, Mr. Dancy was gracious (not to mention stuck waiting for his drink), and chatted for several minutes about women's rights. You know, cocktail banter.

  • Back Forward Patrick Wilson, Mamie Gummer

    Patrick Wilson, Mamie Gummer

Patrick Wilson, who we haven't seen around since The A-Team premiere, was busy getting snapped from all angles.

  • Back Forward Darren Criss

    Darren Criss

Glee's Darren Criss made a late appearance to Hysteria's after-party. We asked the adorable singer if there was any way to get tickets to his Roseland Ballroom performance with Team Starkid. (Hint, hint.)
"Totally...call my agent! Mr. Criss replied, before excusing himself to "go make the rounds." We'll hold him to it.

  • Back Forward Jesse Metcalfe

    Jesse Metcalfe

Adorable Jesse Metcalfe at the Chantelle. "Isn't he from a soap opera?" Another reporter whispered.

  • Back Forward Zadie Smith

Zadie Smith on Hysteria's red carpet, supporting the right to pleasure yourself whenever, with whatever.

  • Back Forward Christopher Abbott

    Christopher Abbott

It was definitely a Girls night out for the boys of the show: Mr. Abbott stopped by for Virginia, only to reappear at Hotel Chantelle with a lovely lady on his arm. For whatever it's worth, he did not seem at all like a vagina.

  • Back Forward Billy Bob Thornton, Dustin Lance Black

Billy Bob Thornton, Dustin Lance Black

We wanted to ask Mr. Thornton about his new book, but were scared off by his reputation with the press and suspicious facial hair.

  • Back Forward Jennifer Connelly

    Jennifer Connelly

Virginia's star Jennifer Connelly looked stunning in black.

  • Back Forward Adam Driver and Jane Lynch

    Adam Driver and Jane Lynch

Over at the Crosby Hotel, Girls's Adam Driver and Glee's Jane Lynch made for an odd, tall pairing. Do we smell a crossover?

  • Back Angela Lansbury

    Angela Lansbury

Seriously. Angela Lansbury. She left the Hysteria party pretty quickly, but even knowing she was there left us feeling a little more tingly. Or maybe that was the Red Bull.
