To Do Wednesday: Ghetto Superstars

The Standard Hotel

After attending tributes this past week to Jane Fonda and Romy Schneider, we’re ready for something a bit more contemporary. (Not that Ms. Fonda’s hippie comedy isn’t on the very bleeding edge.) This year’s Ghetto Film School benefit is to raise money to get young people proficient in filmmaking—the art they produce is both reflective of their experience and quite good. (They may be students, but these aren’t your usual ambient noise-over-shots of doll parts “student films.”) The Ghetto Film School benefit this year is to take place at the Standard—itself recently immortalized in film, and there’s no Shame in that—and feature Questlove DJ’ing. All so hip and young! So far from Lincoln Center! (Even though Robert DeNiro is the guest of honor.)

Standard Hotel, 848 Washington Street, afterparty at Top of the Standard, 10pm; tickets for afterparty and information can be found at ghettofilm.org.
