Tonight’s the opening of Mostly Mozart, the assonant Lincoln Center production that exists only because “Basically Beethoven” and “Somewhat Schubert” didn’t come up first in the brainstorming session. The non-Mozart programs alluded to by the “mostly” qualifier are for other nights: tonight’s attendees are to hear Amadeus’s greatest hits, including the Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, Symphony No. 38, and a cut from the opera Cosi fan tutte. This may be one of New York audience’s chances to hear a program directed by venerable conductor Louis Langrée, whose contract is up in two years and who’s already accepted a position with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Leaving New York for Cincinnati? Sounds mostly crazy.

Mostly Mozart opening night, patrons must be seated by 7:55 for the 8pm program, Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center Plaza, tickets and information can be found at mostlymozart.org.
