Tonight brings both the premiere and closing of Shut Up and Play the Hits, a film chronicling the final show performed by the band LCD Soundsystem. The movie’s only open for a single night, in order to build up the sort of excitement that usually greets theatrical simulcasts of the Metropolitan Opera. (At least this way, the movie won’t end up getting eclipsed by the new Batman flick opening Friday …) The documentary follows band frontman James Murphy both onstage and through the aftermath of his four-hour goodbye concert. (Don’t worry, restless moviegoers, it’s only 105 minutes.)
Shut Up and Play the Hits is playing in selected theaters.
