the eight-day week

To Do Monday: Futurist Tense

Monday nights in August are particularly grim—the few people even in the city on weekdays ritualistically applying aloe and flushing the weekend’s gin and tonics out of their respective systems. We’re stopping by the Museum of Modern Art to check out the exhibition Ecstatic Alphabets/Heaps of Language, a group show examining the Dada and Futurist movements. It features abstractions of the English language wherein letters and words are broken down and displayed as objects, not signifiers of meaning—sort of like how we felt when we tried flipping through Bright Lights, Big City after our ninth glass of Lafite Rothschild at Jay’s party Saturday!

Museum of Modern Art, 11 West 53rd Street, open 10:30am-5:30pm today, information can be found at moma.org.
