Having indulged our Anglophilia more fully than usual these past two weeks of the Olympics (our temporary geographic obsession happens every cycle, and it’ll be much more painful when we get Brazilians for Rio 2016), we’re looking to recreate the rigid social structure and commodity fetishism of Victorian England. Happily, Ted Baker London’s flagship store opens today on Fifth Avenue to capitalize on the surprising mania for a Masterpiece Theatre series about the class struggle in rural England—it sounds like just our cup of tea. We’re told that the ground floor of the store is meant to replicate the maid’s quarters in a “traditional” London house. Who wouldn’t want to go back to such a delightful time? Lie back and think of trousers, my dear.
