New York Fashion Week’s runways were filled with 60s inspired themes this winter—from clothes to make up to hair. Here Sexy Hair’s Creative Artistic Director Rafe Hardy tells us step-by-step how to achieve the 60s ponytail  he created for Charlotte Ronson‘s Fall 2013 collection, envisioned by non-other than 1960s London style.

If starting with wet hair add Short Sexy Hair What a Body Ultra Bodifying Blow Dry Gel to add lift to hair and blow dry as usual
If starting with dry hair, try Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Dry Shampoo to get volume back to day-old hair
Separate the front half of hair by the forehead from the back of hair
Create a deep side part the front portion of hair, and secure in front of your ear with a contrasting color hair pin
Using a small bristled brush, backcomb the back section of hair at the crown to achieve the perfect height—somewhere between a “bump” and a “bouffant.”  Add Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Dry Shampoo if you need product to help create your height
Gather all hair into a low ponytail and secure with an elastic, being careful to keep your 60s bump in place
Take a small piece of hair from under the ponytail and wrap around elastic band to hide it
Pull any small wisps out at the sides for a playful come undone look
Finish with Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Touchable Hair Spray to keep it all in place!
